Congratulations to Somerset County Vocational Technical High School!
This year, we included a lottery winning award for the 2015 School Garden of the Year contest in which all schools that applied were eligible to win an indoor growing wall. The Mobile Edible Wall Unit, better known as a MEWU (mee-woo!), is being donated by Rochester-based Green Living Technologies, a manufacturer of green walls and roofs as well as vertical growing walls.
Agricultural Science Instructor Erik Fargo (center) poses with Culinary Arts instructors (left to right) Mark Mastrobattista and John Vingara to celebrate their new joint Farm to Table Program emphasizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
This technology will enhance the ag science education already taking place at the school. According to Erik Fargo, Agricultural Science Instructor, “Students learn basic skills in plant propagation, transplanting, and daily maintenance requirements for producing crops. Students also learn basic HACCP for safe handling and harvesting for crops to be consumed.”
Congratulations to Ag Science instructor Erik Fargo and the entire Somerset VoTech High School community!
